Heat 1 cup of water and 1 cup of sugar over medium/ medium-high heat.

Once the sugar is dissolved, add 12 oz fresh or frozen cranberries.

Reduce the heat and simmer for 10-12 minutes. The berries will start popping, push them against the sides of the pan to help them pop. 

Once most of the berries have popped, remove from heat. Serve warm or make ahead and store in the refrigerator.
