You won't believe this recipe is made with only 3 ingredients! Look at our tips and tricks for the best no-baking experience.
- Oreos- We used classic original OREOs for this recipe. You can also use double stuffed or peppermint flavor, or red velvet for a fun look and taste.
- Cream Cheese- Make sure to soften the cream cheese so you can make a smooth Oreo dough.
- Chocolate Candy Melts- Use white chocolate candy melts to dip the Oreo ball into. Add the green dye to the melted chocolate so you get a tasty Grinch effect.
- Oil- Shortening or coconut oil in the melted chocolate can make it easier to dip the Oreos. This is optional.

How to make Grinch Balls (Truffles)
Learn how to make these tasty no-bake Grinch Balls. These Oreo cream cheese truffles are so fun to make during the Christmas season.
- In a small mixing bowl, mix the crushed Oreos and softened cream cheese to make a batter.
- Roll the batter into balls and place them on parchment paper. Freeze the balls before dipping them in chocolate for easy dipping.
- Melt white melting chocolate and dye it green. Dip the formed ball into the chocolate using a spoon and a fork.
- Immediately sprinkle with festive sprinkles or a single heart. Do this before the chocolate hardens. Set and enjoy!
Hint: If the chocolate starts to get difficult to work with, add a small amount of shortening or coconut oil to thin it out.
Substitutions and Variations
Try some of our favorite substitutions and variations for different fun flavors!
- Red Velvet- Make this a red velvet center by using red velvet Oreos. It adds a deep red color and taste.
- Peppermint- For a more Christmas Ornament style cake ball, add ½ teaspoon of peppermint extract to the oreo mixture.
Christmas Oreo Balls
These are Grinch themed balls but they also make a great standard Christmas Oreo Balls. Skip the green dye and keep them white, or make green and red dipped cookie balls. Then sprinkle them with Christmas themed sprinkles.
Storing Grinch Truffles
Store these Grinch Truffles in a cool kitchen at room temperature for one day for serving. Store the extras in the refrigerator in an air tight container for 3-4 days.
You can freeze these for a tasty frozen treat, or make ahead dessert prep for a party. Beware that the candy coating may crack when frozen.
Top tip
To get that classic Grinch color, you'll want to add a small amount of yellow to the green dye. It will give you just the look you are looking for!

Recipe
Grinch Balls (Truffles)
Ingredients
- 36 OREOs
- 8 oz cream cheese softened
- 1 ½ cups melting wafers See note 1
- ½-1 Tablespoon shortening or coconut oil optional, See note 2
- sprinkles and green dye
Instructions
- Crush OREOs in a food processor until you get a fine crumb. You don't want any large crumbs left for this recipe!
- Use a spatula to mix together the cream cheese and crushed OREOs. This can take a minute, but be patient, it will come together. Mix until no cream cheese streaks remain.
- See photos above for a great visual.
- Scoop OREO balls onto a parchment lined baking sheet. I like to make them about 1 Tablespoon in size. You can do this easily with a cookie dough scoop, or just use a measuring spoon and your hands to form it into a ball. Place in the freezer for about 20 minutes or longer.
- Melt melting wafers according to package directions. Add green dye (see note 3) and mix well. Dip the OREO balls into the melted candy and remove. If you don't have little dipping sticks, get a plastic fork and remove the 2 middle tines. I also like to use a toothpick to scoot the coated OREO ball off of the fork. Cover with sprinkles quickly before the melt starts to harden!
- Allow to set up completely, then serve!
Notes
- I found while testing this recipe that I like to use Wilton or Ghirardelli melting wafers, but you can use any that you like!
- The shortening or coconut oil is great for thinning the mixture if it gets thick or clumpy. Coconut oil tends to make the wafers very thin and more transparent. I recommend if you're okay using shortening, to use shortening instead.
- If using regular green dye, I recommend adding a little yellow to get that classic grinch color. Or you can use neon green dye for a similar effect.
- As long as your kitchen is cool, these store fine at room temperature for about a day. If your home is warmer, place in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
- These can absolutely be store in the freezer, but beware the candy coating may crack a little.
- Feel free to decorate however you want! If you can find red heart sprinkles this time of year, try placing a single red heart on each truffle to signify the grinch's heart.
