Key Ingredients
This has all the right sweetness for a chocolate cake, but festive toppings for that Easter look.

- Cream Cheese- It's important to soften the cream cheese beforehand.
- Oreo's- Be sure to get the family size so you have enough for a 9x13 pan.
- Chocolate Pudding- Use instant pudding; do not use the cook-and-serve pudding.
- Toppings- We love making the dyed green coconut shreds, bunny peeps, and mini Cadbury eggs for the most festive look.
- Butter- You are mixing this with the cream cheese, so it's important that this is softened so there aren't any chunks.
How to Make Easter Dirt Cake Casserole
Use these process shots to help get the results you want. The pictures can be a visual guide for the best results.

- In a large bowl, blend together the softened cream cheese, butter, and powdered sugar. Blend until smooth.

- Make the chocolate pudding. Blend the cream cheese mixture with the chocolate pudding.

- Gently fold in the whipped cream into the chocolate pudding mixture. Don't overmix.

- Add crushed Oreo's to the bottom of a 9x13 pan. Scoop the chocolate pudding on top of the crushed Oreo cookies.

- Prep the toppings. Add a small amount of green dye to the shredded coconut and mix. This makes it look like grass!

- Spread the pudding mixture so it's smooth and even. Cover and chill for at least 2 hours. Add the toppings to make a fun Easter scene, just before serving.
Hint: Using cream cheese that's too cold can lead to lumps instead of a smooth, creamy filling.
Common Mistakes
Over-crushing the OREOs can make the layers feel muddy instead of crumbly, so aim for a mix of fine crumbs and larger pieces.
Top tip
Make sure your cream cheese is fully softened before mixing-it should be easy to press your finger into without resistance for the smoothest results.
Recipe

Easter Dirt Cake Casserole
Ingredients
- 1 family size package OREOs
- ⅓ cup butter softened, I used salted
- 8 ounces cream cheese softened, I prefer Philadelphia or other nice brand for maximum smoothness
- ⅔ cup powdered sugar
- 16 ounce container Cool Whip thawed
- 6.8 ounces vanilla instant pudding 2 boxes
- 3 cups milk cold
- easter candy I used peep bunnies, cadbury mini eggs, sprinkles and green coconut (see note 1)
Instructions
- Crush OREOs in a ziploc bag with a rolling pin or roughly in a food processor- see note 2. Spread ⅔ of the crushed cookies on the bottom of a 9x13 pan.
- Beat the softened cream cheese and softened butter together in a the bowl of stand mixer or with an electric mixer until perfectly smooth. Beat in the powdered sugar. Set aside

- In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk and pudding mix together in a bowl until it starts to thicken, about 2 minutes. Add to the cream cheese mixture and mix on low speed until well combined. Fold in the Cool Whip with a spatula.

- Pour over the OREO crumbs and smooth the top evenly.

- Cover and chill at least 2 hours before serving. Right before serving, remove from refrigerator and top with remaining crushed OREOs, peeps and other decorations. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes
- To make edible green coconut grass, place about ⅓ cup sweetened coconut flakes in a bowl. Add 2 drops green coloring and stir to combine. Add more food coloring one drop at a time until desired color is reached.
- If using a food processor to crush the OREOs, make sure they aren't too small. Dirt cake is fun when there are some larger chunks of OREO in it.
- Feel free to use whatever decorations you'd like! This could be really fun with chick peeps and eggs.
