Key Ingredients
This drink is straightforward, but we took the time to figure out which two fruit drinks would layer perfectly, so you don't have to!

- Hawaiian Punch- We love this for the red bottom. Don't use sugar-free, or it will be too light and will mix with the diet Gatorade.
- Blue Gatorade- It's important to use sugar-free Gatorade so it's light and floats on top of the Hawaiian punch.
- Sprite- This will give you the red, white, and blue look, but beware that the colors are more likely to mix if you use Sprite.
How to make 4th of July Punch
Learn how to mix 4th of July Punch with these easy-to-follow step-by-step instructions.

- Pour Hawaiian punch into the bottom of a glass. Gently add ice to the top.

- Gently and slowly pour the blue drink on top of the ice. If you go too fast, the drink will mix.
Hint: Always start with chilled drinks-this helps keep your layers crisp and prevents melting ice from mixing the colors too soon.
Common Mistakes
Using room-temperature drinks will melt the ice faster and cause your layers to combine instead of staying separate. Pouring too quickly will break the surface tension and mix your colors.

Top tip
Pour the second and third layers slowly over the back of a spoon to control the flow and help the liquids stay separate. If your colors start to blend, add more ice between layers to act as a cushion.
Recipe

Easy 4th of July Punch
Ingredients
- 48 ounces Hawaiian Punch cold, see note 1
- 48 ounces diet gatorade, blue cold, see note 2 for other options
- ice
Instructions
- Place Hawaiian Punch in the bottom ⅓ of your glass. Add ice and fill it ⅔ full. Slowly and carefully pour the diet blue gatorade over the ice. It's important to go slowly and pour directly onto the ice instead of directly onto the Hawaiian Punch. This ensures that the 2 don't mix and the colors stay separated. See note 2 below

Notes
- We HIGHLY recommend you start with cold beverages for this drink. If your Hawaiian Punch is warm, it will melt the ice making it more watery, which will make it less sugary, which will make it weigh less, which will make the drinks combine.
- The reason all of this works is the weight of the different drinks. The more sugar, the heavier the drink. If you wanted to, you could use G2 gatorade and diet soda. G2 gatorade has less sugar. I tried it with G2 for the blue and diet Sprite for the top and found it to work okay, but not great. There was a lot of color mixing and I had to be more careful and go super slowly. I also felt like they mixed really easily when moved around as well.
- I tried pedialyte type drinks as well. If you go grab a pedialyte type drink expecting it to weigh less due to the lower sugar content, be careful because they have more salt and other electrolytes, making them more dense.

Variations and Substitutions
- White Layer Options - Instead of Sprite, try lemonade, coconut water, or white cranberry juice for a slightly different flavor.
- Lower Sugar Version - Use G2 Gatorade or diet lemon-lime soda, though layers may not separate as cleanly.
- Different Color Combos - Swap in green Gatorade with yellow lemonade for a summer party or orange punch with purple sports drink for Halloween.
- Frozen Version - Blend each layer separately with ice and layer in a glass for a slushy twist.
How to Make Layered Drinks Without Alcohol
Layered drinks work because liquids have different densities based on their sugar content-the more sugar, the heavier the drink. Always start with the heaviest liquid (highest sugar content) at the bottom and finish with the lightest. Add ice between each layer to help keep them from mixing, and pour slowly over the back of a spoon for the best results.
How to Make an Ice Ring
Fill a bundt pan or round mold with water, fruit slices, and herbs for decoration. Freeze until solid, then place in your punch bowl to keep the drink cold without watering it down as quickly.
Storing 4th of July Punch
This drink is best made fresh and served immediately. Leftovers will lose their layered look but still taste delicious-store in the fridge up to 2 days.
