Ingredients
This is a simple recipe but tastes amazing! We've got some great tips and tricks for the best baking experience.
- Pecan Halves- These are by far the easiest pecans to work with. If you get them any smaller, it's really hard to dip in the chocolate.
- Salted Butter- The extra salt added to the pecans really enhances the flavor.
- Melting Milk Chocolates- Through trial and error we have noticed a huge difference in brands when it comes to melting chocolates. Off-brand or store-brand melting chocolates are much harder to work with. Brand name chocolates have a smooth consistency and coat the pecans easier.
- Coconut Oil- We like the flavor the coconut oil adds but you can use your favorite oil instead.
See recipe card for quantities.
How To Make Chocolate Covered Pecans
Follow these step-by-step process photos for the best results. Dipping the pecans can be difficult but if you follow our tips and tricks you'll have great success.
- Mix pecan halves in melted butter. Spread the buttered pecans halves on a parchment lined baking sheet evenly spread out.
2. Bake at 325* F for 8-10 minutes. Remove from the oven and cool.
3. Melt the milk chocolate at 30 second intervals at a time. Mix until completely melted. Add the coconut oil and mix. Add the roasted nuts to the melted chocolate and completely coat.
4. With a fork or clean hands, place the Chocolate Covered Pecans on a clean parchment paper. Let them cool so the chocolate hardens.
Hint: Be sure to monitor the chocolate when melting. Only heat for 30 second or less intervals and mix in between every interval. Over heating the chocolate will cause it to become chalky and hard/impossible to work with.
Substitutions and Variations
- Dark Chocolate- instead of milk chocolate, use dark chocolate.
- White Chocolate - instead of milk chocolate melting chips, use white chocolate at a 1:1 ratio.
- Almond Bark - use almond bark instead of milk chocolate at a 1:1 ratio.
- Walnuts - substitute pecan halves for walnuts
- Salted - add coarse sea salt to the top of melting chocolate for a salted flavor.
- Cashews- use cashews instead of pecans at a 1:1 ratio.

This is the best recipe I've found for chocolate covered pecans. I do add 1/2 cup of heavy cream and 4 tbsps of butter to the chocolate to make it creamier plus the coconut oil. I heat the chocolate and other ingredients on the stove top in a double boiler. I also add a 1/2 cup of Swerve confection sugar substitute to cut the bitterness of Lilly's sugar-free milk chocolate chips. Makes an excellent Keto dessert. I scoop the mixture into cupcake liners in a muffin tin. Yummy!
